Abstract

1322235 Making tubes MONMORE TUBES Ltd 24 Aug 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 40654/70 Heading B3A In the continuous manufacture of internallycoated galvanized tubing from steel strip a spray tube 12 enters the partly formed tubing between tube-forming rollers 8 and extends into the formed tube 22 so that a nozzle 20 applies a coating composition to the entire interior surface of the tubing past the point 26 at which the longitudinal welded joint is formed. The composition comprises a pigmenting agent and a thermally stable binder curable at a temperature in the range 600‹ to 900‹ F. The coating is cured during the galvanizing operation and a preheating stage therefor. A purge gas such as air blows solvent vapours from the coating composition away from the weld zone. In an alternative method, Figs 4 and 5, not shown, the strip is coated in the flat state, dried, formed and welded into a tube and re-coated in the weld area using a tube 12 having an outlet directed at the seam. The tube 12 is spaced from the interior surface of the tubing by means of spacers 32 and may have a cooling jacket (40) Fig. 9 or tube (36) Fig. 8, not shown.
