Abstract

1321897 Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems GARRETT CORP 7 Aug 1970 [15 Aug 1969] 38227/70 Heading G3P A valve for controlling the pressure and temperature of air supplied to the passenger compartment in an aircraft comprises a butterfly 14, Fig. 1, operated by a fluid-pressure responsive actuator 12, a bleed valve 34, 36, Fig. 2 for modulating the fluid pressure supplied to the actuator, and a lever 47 for controlling the bleed valve, the lever being connected for movement with the butterfly and also being responsive to variations in the temperature of fluid adjacent the butterfly. This temperature is measured by a helically wound bi-metallic strip 44 contained in the hollow shaft 18 of the butterfly. The bi-metallic strip is connected at one end to the hollow shaft and carries the lever 47 at its other end. Fluid is fed to the bi-metallic strip through grooves (50) Fig. 5 (not shown) in the butterfly and ports (49) Fig. 3 (not shown) in the hollow shaft. In operation, pressurized fluid is fed from an inlet 31, Fig.2, through passages 32, 33 to a diaphragm arrangement 24 which moves the butterfly to the closed position. Simultaneously the lever 47 is positioned adjacent a prong 48 of a flapper 36 of the bleed valve so that an increase in temperature at the butterfly opens the bleed valve and reduces the actuator. A spring 30 opens the butterfly in accordance with the reduced pressure.
