Abstract
1321876 Optical tracking COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT 9 Nov 1970 [12 Nov 1969] 53284/70 Addition to 1169640 Heading H4D In the optical tracking system of Specification 1,169,640 the use of a single correlation means renders the system susceptible to errors due to variations in the width and amplitude of the correlation peak and to deformations in the flank of the correlation curve. To overcome this a bank C of (2n + 1) correlators, Fig. 1, is used, correlator Co receiving the most recently stored or reference quantized video signal So(t) and the instantaneous signal S(t) directly, correlators C 1 ... C n receiving the instantaneous signal S(t) directly but the reference signal So(t) via a respective number 1 ... n of delays R 1 ... R n of period T H , where T H is the time quantam of the sampling means 23 such that the reference signal has a delay jT H for the correlator Cj, and correlators C -1 ... C -n receiving the reference signal directly and the instantaneous signal delayed as above. The composite correlation curve is thus as shown in Fig. 2 and a comparator CP determines the degree of correlation between So(t) and S(t) from the correlation which gives the greatest output.
