Abstract

1321795 Modulating and deflecting light MULLARD Ltd 17 April 1972 17598/72 Addition to 1291692 Heading H4F In a modification of the light modulator described in parent Specification 1,291,692, one of the transparent electrodes is replaced by a reflective electrode. The incident beam may be other than normally incident on the crystal, e.g. at 25 degrees to the normal, so that the emergent beam is spatially separated therefrom and may be used in any of the systems disclosed in the parent Specification. Alternatively, a polarizing prism may be used to polarize light normally incident on the crystal, and to deflect light of the orthogonal polarization emerging from the crystal, e.g. when a field is applied thereto. A heat sink may be secured to the reflective electrode.
