Abstract
1320971 Bonding ferrites by glass-ceramic material INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd 26 May 1971 [16 June 1970] 21608/70 Heading C1M [Also in Divisions B3 and G5] Two components of a ferrite device are bonded by the steps of: accurately positioning the two components relative to each other to form a gap of predetermined width; placing a quantity of glass-ceramic forming material in the glass phase adjacent to the gap and subjecting the ferrite and glass phase material to a heating cycle involving (1) slow heating to expel gases trapped in the ferrite and dissolved in the glass, (2) heating to a temperature to enable the glass to flow into the gap and (3) heating to convert the glass phase material into glass-ceramic. The glass may be cooled between steps (2) and (3). Preferably the thermal coefficients of expansion of the glass-ceramic and the ferrite are closely matched. Spacers to determine the gap may be strips of gold produced by vacuum deposition. The glass may be painted on the ferrite components as a suspension of particles in water or may be in the form of rods or strips. A suitable glass-ceramic is given as, in percentages by weight:-SiO 2 63À5; LiD 2 18À5; K 2 O 3À6; MgO 3À8; Al 2 O 3 7À7; P 2 O 5 2À9. Specifications 1,314,184 and 1,316,155 are referred to.
