Abstract
132,061. Wilder, J. W., Wilder, G. H., and Procter, E. C. Sept. 17, 1918. Pyrotechnic apparatus. -Relates to pyrotechnic signalling-devices which are adapted to be ignited when dropped or thrown into the air, from aircraft for example. According to the invention, the igniting- device comprises a plate 1 in which is formed a chamber 5 having detachably secured in one end a plug 8 for carrying a percussion cap or the like, and having slidably mounted therein a spring-pressed striker 11 which is held cocked by a releaser-plate 15, the plate 1 also having a hollow stem 6 communicating with the chamber 5 and carrying a time-fuse 7. A withdrawable safety-pin 21 is passed through the releaser-plate 15. To the end of the plate 15 may be attached a lanyard, by means of which the plate is withdrawn, so as to free the striker and thus ignite the fuse, when the signal device is at a predetermined distance from the aircraft from which it is dropped. The plate 1 may be made of aluminium, and is shown as fixed to the wood plug 3 which closes one end of the tube containing the light or smoke-producing composition.
