Abstract

1320054 Making springs NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP 30 April 1971 [1 June 1970] 12551/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] A leaf spring is provided with an integral cylindrical eye 17 at one or both ends by splitting the spring to give two or more tongues and then bending one tongue 18 anti-clockwise, say, into a circle, and the adjacent one(s) 21, 22 clockwise, to form the eye. The eye may project equally below or above the plane as here and in Fig. 8 (not shown) or may be wholly above (Figs. 5, 11, not shown) or below the plane of the leaf. There may be two slits 27, 28 producing three tongues (depicted also in Fig. 5) or only one slit (Figs. 8, 11). The eye may be formed on the top leaf of a laminated spring or on a single leaf suspension spring of constant width and of a thickness tapering from the centre.
