1320004 Tampon or like applicator KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP 8 July 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 33221/70 Heading A5R A tampon or like applicator device comprises telescopically interfitting inner and outer tubes 22, 21 wherein the forward end of the outer tube contains a tampon &c 23 ejectable by movement of the inner tube 22, said inner tube 22 being provided with an aperture 28 rearwardly of its front end, and having a portion of said outer tube 21 disposed over said aperture 28, and having temporary locking means depending into said aperture, said locking means comprising at least one sector 26 of a circle, the apex of which depends downwardly from an arcuate bend line 27 at the periphery of the circle. The tampon applicator has a raised annular ring 20 to facilitate gripping. The line 27 is depressed to form an arcuate shoulder, and the inner aperture 28 comprises a sector in register with the sector 26. In the embodiment shown the locking means comprises three members, each forming a third sector of a circle, one member having a forward facing apex 25. In a preferred embodiment, the apex (25a) Fig. 8 (not shown) of the forward facing member is offset forwardly from the centre of the circle formed as previously. In both described embodiments, the aperture in the inner tube may be preformed or punched simultaneously with the aperture in the outer tube by a punch Fig. 6 (not shown).
