Abstract
1319506 Fertilizers containing iron chelates CIBA-GEIGY AG 27 Nov 1970 [28 Nov 1969] 56520/70 Heading C1B [Also in Division C2] Iron deficiency chlorosis in plants is treated by a stabilized iron-chelate composition comprising an iron chelate obtained from an ethylene-diamine diphenyl-acetic 'acid or a salt thereof by complexing with iron in a ratio of acid molecule to iron atom of about 1 : 1 which chelate is of the probable formula where R<SP>1</SP>, R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are H, alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms or hydroxyalkyl of 1-3 carbon atoms of R 3 and R 4 are together alkylene of 3-6 carbon atoms, X 1 to X 8 are H, alkyl of 1-12 carbon atoms, OH, NO 2 , CN, alkoxy of 1-8 carbon atoms, Cl, Br, I, COOM, SO 2 H or -N(Y 1 )Y 2 where Y 1 is H, alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, hydroxyalkyl of 2-4 carbon atoms, alkanoyl or alkenoyl of at most 8 carbon atoms and Y 2 is H, alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or hydroxy alkyl of 2-4 carbon atoms, each of.M and M<SP>+</SP> are H an alkali metal or a cation of the formula where Y 3 , Y 4 , and Y 5 are H, alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or hydroxyalkyl of 2-4 carbon atoms or Y 3 and Y 4 and the nitrogen atom represent pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino, 1-piperazino or 4-methyl-1-piperazino and in sufficient amount to stabilize the chelate a compound of the formula where R is H, hydroxy, alkyl of 1-8 carbon atoms or alkoxy of 1-8 carbon atoms, R<SP>1</SP> is H, C1, alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms or SO 3 M, R<SP>11</SP> is H, Cl, OH, alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1-8 carbon atoms or COOM, R<SP>111</SP> is H, Cl, OH, alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms or alkoxy of 1-8 carbon atoms and R<SP>11</SP> is H or alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms.
