Abstract

1318508 Injection moulding bearings H DEGERMOND 29 June 1971 [14 Sept 1970] 30351/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] In a method of making bearings in which rolling members 3 are retained between two pairs of independent metal races 1, 2 embedded in two annular masses 4, 5 of moulded plastics material, a shell constituted by two pairs of races 1, 2 and rolling members 3 is placed within a mould 7, 8, the shell expanded radially outwardly and plastics material injected on the outer and inner peripheries of the shell. The expansion of the shell compensates for shrinkage of the plastics material and is effected by ring members 13, 18 having wedge portions adapted to press against the inner races 2. The degree of expansion can be altered by changing the thickness of removable rings 15, 20. Annular thrust members 11, 16 are urged by springs 12, 17 to bear against the outer race members 1. The bearing may have two rows of balls or conical rollers (Figs. 4 and 5 respectively, not shown).
