Abstract

131,844. Goold, L. W., (Hadley Co., C. R.). March 25, 1919. Post files; clamping-devices; sheets.-The covers of a loose-leaf binder are connected by posts provided with clamping-nuts and pivoted for outward movement in relation to the ends of the covers. The leaves may be notched at the ends for alinement by the posts. The posts may be spaced at a greater distanco apart than the length of the leaves, so that the leaves can be offset into two groups, each alined at one edge by one of the posts, in which case an intermediate post is arranged to be brought into use when required for alining the leaves at both edges in a single group. Fig. 3 shows an end post 11 in connexion with binding-strips 1, 4 hinged to the covers. The strips 1, 4 are shown as tubular and provided at the end with plugs 14, 15. The post 11 is pivoted in a notch in the lower plug 15, and engages in a notch in the upper plug 14. A spring-pressed pin 18 retains the post in the upper plug. The end section of the post is provided with a clamping-nut 16. Fig. 5 shows additional clamping means comprising eccentrics 21 on a yoke 22 pivoted on the nut 16. Fig. 12 shows the upper notch in the binding-strip 1 as counterbored at 24 so as to leave shoulders 25 for retaining the post, and Fig. 11 shows the nut 16 as provided with a reduced portion 27 fitting the notch, and a bevel 28 to seat in the counterbore. Fig. 8 shows an arrangement of posts for offsetting, leaves 7 being shown alined at one edge with one of the end posts 11. An intermediate post 31 is pivoted in a recess 29 in the lower binding-strip 4, and is folded down into the recess or up into alining position as required; a corresponding perforation 32 is provided in the upper binding-strip 1.
