Abstract

1318067 Mixed metal complexes CIBAGEIGY AG 12 Aug 1970 [14 Aug 1969] 38860/70 Heading C4P The invention comprises mixed metal complexes containing for every atom of a trivalent metal one molecule of an azo or azomethine compound which has a complex-forming group in the o,o<SP>1</SP> positions to the azo or azomethine bridge and one molecule of an azo or azomethine compound acting as a trifunctional ligand which contains a complex forming group in the ortho position to the azo or azomethine bridge and a hetero atom separated from the azo or azomethine linkage by 2 C atoms which can act as a second non-ionizable co-ordination position. Suitable metals are iron, cobalt and chromium. Complex forming groups can be hydroxyl, alkoxy, carboxyl or amino. Azo or azomethine compounds capable of acting as trifunctional ligands are particularly those containing a tertiary nitrogen atom or a carbonyl oxygen atom. Examples of such dyes have the formulµ The dyes may be prepared by reacting a 1 : 1 metal complex of an azo or azomethine compound with complex forming groups in the o,o<SP>1</SP> position with an equimolar amount of an azo or azomethine compound acting as a trifunctional ligand or vice versa. Alternatively the two azo or azomethine compounds may be reacted simultaneously with a metal donor in a molar ratio of 2 : 1. If the produced mixed metal compounds contain an amino group not involved in complex formation this can be condensed with acylating reagents which contain fibre reactive substituents, particularly compounds containing a triazine ring.
