Abstract
1315853 Opening and emptying bags TAC CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS Ltd 14 Jan 1971 [12 Feb 1970] 6911/70 Heading B8C In a bag opening machine a bag is slit along both ends and one side, or along both sides and one end and the bag is then stripped from the contents. A bag is fed by driven rollers 10 on to a platform 3 which is then raised to a position from which the bag moves towards a pair of rotary knives 29 (30) due either to the inclination of the platform or to the rollers on the platform being driven. Cam grooves 41, (42) in a drum 43 swing the knives across the end (or side) of the bag to slit the bag. The distance separating the knives after the end has been slit is controlled by the position of pads (10), 10<SP>1</SP> which clamp the bag. On release of the bag by the clamp's the bag moves towards a spiked roller 46 which grips the underneath of the bag while the knives slit the sides or ends, of the bag. The roller pulls the bag beneath a partition 47 to a doctor 55 while the contents slide down the other side of the partition to a toothed roller 51 and then on to a conveyer.
