1315635 Vehicle testing stations for carrying out multiple tests in sequence on vehicles VOLKSWAGENWERK AG 23 July 1971 [29 July 1970] 34568/71 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions G4 and G5] A device for recording results of the testing of a mechanism, e.g. an automotive vehicle by a mechanic, according to a test programme, comprises a manually operable, portable control device having signalling buttons connected by information channels to an information recorder, depression of the buttons actuating components both of a transmitting device for giving information concerning the particular test in progress to the information recorder and also a stepping mechanism indicating the next test to an operator. Three buttons (which may be differently shaped) are provided, two to indicate " good " and " bad " as the result of a test, to control printing on a sheet at the recorder, the printer being advanced to the next line after each test result is printed. The third button causes such advance without printing, as where a test is to be omitted, and this button may be omitted. The buttons are mounted in a rocker, depression of which closes common contacts to permit the button signal to be transmitted and advances a closed loop via pawl and ratchet to display print thereon identifying the next test through a window having a magnifying lens. Alternatively, the loop may be advanced using electromagnets energized through contacts of the buttons, and may be magnetic tape read to give an audible indication of the test. The control device can be held in one hand, and may have a pistol-grip. A further button may reset the device to the first test.
