Abstract
1315513 Radio navigation INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 23 June 1970 [26 June 1969] 30335/70 Heading H4D Relates a system in which a radio phase beacon emits pairs of pulses, amplitude-modulation affording azimuth determination at an airborne receiver. According to the invention additional navigational information is transmitted as a modulated pulse signal, derived coherently before modulation, on the carrier wave frequency of the pulse pairs associated with and spaced from each of the pulse pairs so as to lie coherently in the interval between the pulse pairs and the pulse signal is decoded on the aircraft. The description comprises a system in which a TACAN normal or sector beacon (A) is located at one end of a runway and a beacon (E), affording elevation data, is spaced transversely from the intended touchdown point. A third pulse is generated at E by delaying a decoded pulse pair from A by a fixed interval #t. Information may be binarily coded utilizing a fourth pulse.
