Abstract
1315051 Vibratory finishing H KOBAYASHI 13 May 1971 [8 July 1970] 14705/71 Heading B3D A vibratory apparatus for finishing the surfaces of workpieces comprises a tubular container 1, 2 wound in multi-layer and multi-story arrangement and having ends joined to form an endless tube, vibration generating means 13 for causing a mixture of abrasion media and workpieces to travel along the container, charging and discharging opening for the abrasive media and workpieces, and means 12 resiliently supporting the container. In one embodiment, the container is formed by a tube bent from both sides of a portion A forming the lowest part of the container so as to have two layers and three stories la, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, the ends of the tube at the ends 1c, 2c, being joined so that the tubular container is endless. The container is mounted on ribs 9 extending from a hollow cylindrical member 8 having a flange 10 carried by springs 12 on a pedestal 11. The vibration generating means, consisting of a reversible motor 13 having weights 35, 36, 37, 38, is mounted at the lower end of the member 8. The container is charged with abrasive media and workpieces through openings 6, 7 at the upper part of the container and a discharge opening 34 is provided at the lower part. A separation unit 5 is secured to the top of the container and has a barrier 14 fixed to the bottom of the tube. According to the direction of flow of the media and workpieces, flaps 15, 16 are positioned so that the media and workpieces travel over a screen 17 or 18 through which the media passes back into the container while the workpieces are discharged. The direction of vibration may be such that the media and workpieces ascend the inner coils and descend the outer or vice versa, finishing being effected during both ascending and descending. In another embodiment, the tubular container has four layers and five stories. Preferably the container has an even number of layers but may have an odd number.
