Abstract

1315045 Radar UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 2 Dec 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 58560/70 Addition to 1145985 Heading H4D In a microwave liquid-level gauge utilizing the standing-wave pattern in a hollow waveguide 13 by diode detectors 16, calibration is effected by temporarily bringing the fluid level in the waveguide to a predetermined position independently of the normally-assumed position. This may be achieved by opening a valve 23 to permit compressed air to enter the waveguide until the liquid level in the waveguide falls to its open end 13c; valve 23 is then closed and the number of nodes passing through detector 16 are counted, 26, as the liquid rises in the waveguide. It can be arranged that the counter registers in centimetres.
