Abstract
1314831 Recirculating flushing systems of chemical closets M HILLER 19 April [9 March 1970] 11257/70 Heading E1C A recirculating flushing system of a chemical toilet comprises a sealed reservoir which is separate from the container into which the pan discharges, a pivoted flap for sealing off the outlet from the pan into the container, a pump for delivering flushing liquid from the reservoir to the pan to flush the same, and a conduit arrangement leading from the bottom of the pan to the reservoir and incorporating a narrow bore tube or a filtering aperture to prevent solid waste material from being recirculated. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the conduit arrangement comprises a tubular member 15 having a filtering aperture 16 at one end communicating with the bottom of the pan 10 via a valve plate 21 movable between open and closed positions by rotation of a knob 27a which causes a cam 33 to operate a spring- loaded rod 23 to which the valve plate is secured, the other end of member 15 having a branch 15b leading to the reservoir 13 and a closed end 15d through which the rod 23 passes in sealed manner. A pump 19, which withdraws liquid from the reservoir 13 via pipe 18 and feed it to a flushing ring (not shown) on the pan, is mounted on the reservoir and controlled by an electric switch 29 which is operated by depressing the knob 27a. In operation, a pivoted flap (not shown) is moved to close the bottom of the pan during use of the toilet, after which the valve plate 21 is moved to open position and the pump 19 operated, by simultaneous rotation and depression of the knob 27a. After the walls of the pan have been adequately flushed, the knob 27a is released to switch off the pump and re-close the valve plate 21, after which the pivoted flap is opened to release the solid matter into a container (not shown) below the pan. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, the conduit arrangement comprises a narrow bore pipe 126 leading from a perforated ring pipe arranged within a rubber or like seal 117 forming part of a pivoted flap adapted to close the bottom of the pan, a pump 129 being operated to recirculate flushing liquid via the pipe 126, sealed reservoir 123, pipe 129 and jet nozzle 127, when the flap is closed. Operation is otherwise similar to that of the first embodiment. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,171,884.
