Abstract

1314117 Crystalline zeolites V Y NIKOLINA and LIKNYSH 8 July 1971 32083/71 Heading C1A Crystalline zeolites are produced by reacting a solution of an alkali metal silicate with a solution of an alkali metal aluminate in the presence of a substance which forms a complex with hydroxylaluminate ions, and an ammonium salt, the quantity of the salt being sufficient for partial precipitation of silica from the solution of an alkali metal silicate, homogenizing, maturing and crystallizing an alkali metal aluminosilicate hydrogel thus formed and isolating zeolite crystals produced from the leach. Before crystallization the reaction mixture is stirred until homogenization for 0À25 to 2 hours and is allowed to stay until a hydrogel formed becomes mature for 0À5 to 48 hours at 20‹ to 40‹ C. and then the hydrogel is crystallized at 80‹ to 120‹ C. for 12 to 120 hours. Preferably the quantity of ammonium salt, which may be the chloride, acetate, nitrate or sulphate, is from 0À02 to 0À5 of the quantity which is equivalent to the content of an alkali metal oxide in an alkali metal silicate. Preferably the substance adapted to form a complex with hydroxyl aluminate ions comprises a compound containing phosphate ions, e.g. a soluble phosphate or phosphoric acid. The quantity of compound comprising phosphate ion should correspond to a ratio P 2 O 5 : Al 2 O 3 of 0À2 to 1À2 in the reaction mixture.
