Abstract

1313892 Pesticidal agents CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 2 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 32203/70 Heading A5E A method of treating pesticidal agents comprises mixing a pesticidal substance in the form of a solution or a suspension with a solution of a hydrophilic water-swellable synthetic polymer or copolymer of hydroxyalkyl methacrylate, hydroxyalkyl acrylate, hydroxycycloalkyl methacrylate or hydroxycycloalkyl acrylate, the copolymer containing less than 50% of another comonomer which forms a hydrophilic copolymer with the acrylates or methacrylates. Suitable pesticidal substances include the N, N-diethylamide of m-toluic acid, tetramethylthiuram disulphide, malathion (Registered Trade Mark) Thiometon (Registered Trade Mark), the dressing agent Embathion, 2, 3-dihydro-5-carboxy-anilide-6-methyl-1, 4-oxathiin, cuprous oxide, cupric sulphate, gamma hexachlorocyclohexane, D.D.T. bis(2-hydroxy- 3, 5-dichlorophenyl) - 2 - sulphophenylmethane, 2(3, 4-dichlorophenylureido)-4, 4-dichlorophenyl oxid-2-sulphonic acid, 5-nitrofuryl acrylic acid, O, O-dimethyl-O-(2, 2-dichlorovinyl) phosphate, methylene-bis-thiocyanate, phenylmercury chloride or methylmercury iodide. The methacrylate may be ethyleneglycol monomethacrylate, diethyleneglycol monomethacrylate, triethyleneglycol monomethacrylate or glycerol monomethacrylate. The polymer may include a hydroxyalkyl dimethacrylate, trimethacrylate or polymethacrylate or one of their acrylic analogues as a cross-linking agent. Also, the polymer may include a methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylic acid, sodium methacrylate or thallium methacrylate, a salt of methacrylic acid or other unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid, or anhydride thereof, acrylamide or methacrylamide, butyl methacrylate, styrene, vinyl acetate or glycidyl methacrylate. Further, the polymer may include ethylene-bis-methacrylate, diethyleneglycoltriethyleneglycol- or tetraethyleneglycol-bismethacrylate, methylene-bis-acrylamide, methylene-bis-methacrylamide, divinyl benzene, sulphonated divinyl benzene, carboxylated divinyl benzene. A pesticide solution and the soluble hydrophilic polymer may be adsorbed on to a porous material such as bentonite, pumice, kieselguhr or dry clay. There may be included in the polymer a pulverised ion exchanger selected to reduce the rate of decomposition of the pesticide.
