Abstract

1313694 Stripping insulation TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 29th April 1970 [25 June 1969] 20539/70 Heading C7E [Also in Division C5] A method of removing the insulation from a limited part of a metal wire having organic electrically insulating material thereon so as to permit electrical connection to be made to the wire, wherein the said limited part of the wire is immersed in a bath of fused alkali metal hydroxide and fused alkali metal nitrate so as to oxidise and remove the insulation therefrom, while permitting said insulation to remain on the remainder of the metal wire. The stripped wire may then be brightened by immersion in nitric acid. The bath may also contain alkali metal chloride Sodium, potassium or lithium salts may be used and the temperature is dependant upon the alkali metal compounds used therein e. g. in the case of sodium compounds, the bath temperature is 300‹C. to 390‹C. The electrical coatings maybe polyvinyl, polyester, polyamide, polyamideimide, polyurethane, polystyrene, polythylene, polypropylene or polycarbonate material.
