Abstract

1313538 Stabilizing polymers CHEMOPETROL ZAVODY PRO ZPRACOVANI ROPY 12 June 1970 [12 June 1969 2 Oct 1969 5 Nov 1969] 28465/70 Headings C3F C3P C3Q and C3R Polymers are stabilized by a mixture of (1) a phenolic anti-oxidant and/or an aromatic amine, and (2) a stannous salt derived from (a) an aromatic or aliphatic carboxylic acid, acid ester or imide, (b) an aromatic or aliphatic sulphenic, sulphuric or sulphonic acid or acid ester, (c) a phenol or thiophenol, (d) a phosphorous, phosphoric or pyrophosphoric acid or acid ester, (e) a monoalkyl or monoaryl sulphate, (f) an N- derivative of sulphuric acid monoamide, or (g) a glycol ester of boric acid. The compositions may additionally contain (3) an organic aliphatic sulphide or phosphite. Examples are directed as follows:- polymers: low-pressure polyethylene, isotactic polypropylene, 1 : 1 ethylene/propylene copolymer, polybutene, copolymer ABS, vulcanized and non-vulcanized natural rubber, vulcanized and non-vulcanized isoprene rubber, 20 : 1 trioxane/dioxolane copolymer, polycaprolactam, cellulose acetobutyrate, polyurethane, and polyphenyleneoxide; phenols or amines: numerous different ones including # - (3,5 - di - tert. - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid pentaerythrite ester and n-octadecyl ester, butyraldehyde-aniline condensation product, 2,6-di-tert.-butyl-alpha-dimethylamino-p-cresol, 4-isopropoxy-diphenylamine, and 4,4<SP>1</SP> - thiobis - (6 - tert. - butyl - 3- methylphenol); stannous salts: numerous, including those derived from the following materials : phosphoric acid dilauryl ester, 2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethyl- 1,3,2-borinane, dodecylsulphinic acid, 4-chlorbenzoic acid, phthalimide, tetrachloropyrooatechine, salicylic acid and p-methoxybenzoic acid; sulphides or phosphites: dilauryl-#,#<SP>1</SP>-thiodipropionate, di - isododecyl - phenyl - phosphite and 2,6-ditert. - butyl - 4 - methylphenylpyrocatechine phosphite.
