1313299 Joints LINK 51 Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [1 July 1969 29 Nov 1969] 33154/69 and 58460/69 Heading A4H [Also in Divisions E1 E2 and F2] A spigot device 10 comprises a cubic body 12 and one or more square section spigots 14 extending therefrom and rigid therewith, each spigot 14 having an interference fit with a squaresection socket 16 in a framework member 18, the body 12 having larger external dimensions than the spigots 14 to afford shoulders 68 against which the ends 70 of members 18 abut, each spigot including external ribs 54 extending for the major part of its length to afford flat bearing surfaces 56 and a plain inner bearing portion 36 which is proud of, as shown, or level with Figs. 5, 9 (not shown) the rib bearing surfaces 56. The spigot device 10 is formed from two metal tubes 26 welded together at 28, one tube being closed by a metal plate 30, or in a single casting or moulding. A thermo-plastics or thermo-setting casing, e.g. of nylon, is formed of a body part 34 and inner bearing portions 36 moulded directly on to the tubes 26, and outer cup-shaped spigot cases 40 including the ribs 54 heat shrunk on to tubes 26. Each rib 54 is divergent longitudinally inwardly and transversely inwardly Fig. 3 (not shown) and the ribs 54 are inclined at their outer ends 64 to provide a divergent "lead". In a second form, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the inner bearing portion 36 is provided at the inner end of the spigot case 40. In a third form Figs. 9-10 (not shown), the casing comprises a single moulding and the ribs 54 have parallel sides. In a fourth form Figs.17-18 (not shown), the spigot case 40 is an open-ended sleeve, and the end of the spigot 14 is closed by a nylon plug (82), the head (86) of which has ribs (94) on its sides.
