Abstract

1312160 Dioxazine pigments CIBA-GEIGY AG 23 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 61095/70 Heading C4P [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises dioxazine pigments of the general formula wherein ring A is an aryl radical containing an aryloxy group and R is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical. Ring A is preferably benzene substituted by phenoxy or naphthoxy groups and optionally further substituents, e.g. halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, alkyl-, aralkyl- or aryl-sulphonyl, carboxylic acid ester or amide. They are prepared by cyclization of the corresponding 2,5-diarylaminobenzoquinone of the general formula wherein R 2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl and R and A are as above by heating in an inert organic solvent, e.g. α-chloronaphthalene to 150‹ to 210‹ C. optionally in presence of an acid halide. The pigments are used to colour viscose, cellulose ethers and esters, nitrocellulose, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters, natural and synthetic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, phenoplasts, polyolefines, p.v.c., p.a.c., polyacrylic esters, rubber, casein, silicones, and lacquers.
