Abstract

1311516 Cutting by fusion; continuous casting MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 3 April 1970 [5 April 1969] 15929/70 Headings B3F and B3V A continuous casting 10 is transversely cut in a region between supporting members 12, 14 by clamping to the casting 10 a device 15 carrying one or more cutting torches 19, 20 upstream of the supporting member 12, positioning the torch or torches at the side or sides of the casting 10, preheating the casting 10 at the point or points where cutting is to be initiated and moving the torch or torches to cut the casting 10 when a contactor, disposed immediately after the supporting member 12, is contacted by the device 15. A third supporting roller 27 is positioned between the supporting rollers 12, 14 which are spaced apart by 3 m. The roller 14 is provided with spaced discs 13 to avoid damage thereto should only one torch be used due to failure of the other torch. A casing (28) (Fig. 2, not shown) is positioned between the rollers 12, 14 to enable fumes and slag to be sucked off through an exhaust duct (29).
