Abstract

1311492 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems ATLAS COPCO AB 7 July 1970 [17 July 1969] 32923/70 Heading G3P A motor-driven compressor has a power control mechanism 2, such as a fuel-injection pump, coupled to an adjusting means 40 operated through a device 49 when the pressure at the delivery side of the compressor rises above a predetermined value. The motor 1 drives low and high pressure stages 7, 8 through a shaft 6 and gearing 9 and has its output increased when a lever 3 is rotated anti-clockwise by fluid-pressure derived from the inter-stage connection 14 and applied through a pipe 46 to a spring-loaded piston comprising the means 40. The opposite side of the piston is connected by a pipe 48 and a spring- loaded ball valve 59 with the receiver 20 and with a spring-loaded resilient diaphragm for actuation of a valve 68 which causes actuation of a further valve 32 when it moves downwardly to connect a chamber 80 to receiver pressure. With the motor idling and the compressor unloaded to atmosphere through a valve 36, a spring-loaded valve 26 is operated manually to allow oil pressure from a pump 23 to pressurize a chamber 30 and lift the valve 32 to a position in which a pipe 94 is isolated from a pipe 86 communicating with a vent 87 so that a piston 33 is moved to the right against a spring 35 by the depression in the intake 10 to the compressor. This movement opens a butterfly valve 12 and closes the valve 36 so that the pipe 46 receives fluid under pressure from the inter-stage connection to operate the means 40 and a diaphragm valve 88 which closes the vent 87 and allows inter-stage pressure to be applied through an aperture 89 to the piston 33. If the receiver pressure rises due to compressor delivery exceeding demand, the valve 59 is lifted to allow receiver pressure to act through pipes 50, 53 and 48 on the means 40 reducing the speed of the motor and on the diaphragm 66 to restore the valve 32 to its original position.
