1311348 Tableting vehicle SUCREST CORP 28 April 1970 [29 April 1969] 20395/70 Heading A5B A direct compression vehicle for pharmaceutical and like tablets is made by forming a mixture of a plurality of tablet constituents, at least one of which is a "compaction acid", selected from polyethylene glycol (M.W. 2000- 10000), glyceryl monostearate, sorbitol, lactose, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, fatty acids, instantized gums, proteins, starch, hydrolysed polysaccharide derivatives, free-flowing, generally spherical agglomerates of sugar particles in a matrix of non-crystalline sugar and free-flowing particulate compositions of inert diluents dispersed in a matrix of hydrophilic, hydratable, high M.W. polymer, compacting the mixture to form a sheet which is compact and coherent and breaking up the sheet to form particles, less than 40% of the sheet being converted to dust (i.e. particles below 325 mesh). Thereafter, the particles are mixed with the remainder of the tablet ingredients, e.g. a lubricant and an active material, and tableted directly by compression. The preferred compaction aids are those materials disclosed in Specification 1310925 and co-pending application 20394/70, which are used in conjunction with sugars.
