1311280 Drawing synthetic filaments IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Sept 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 49832/69 Heading B5B Apparatus for drawing synthetic organic thermoplastic filamentary yarns comprises a bath 1 for containing a liquid, in one wall 3 of which is a slot 2 extending below the liquid level, a fixed snubbing pin 7 spaced from the liquid surface mounted on or close to an upper edge of the bath, and means not shown for passing the yarn through the slot into the liquid and means for withdrawing the yarn from the liquid over the snubbing pin. As shown, the bath has two narrow slots 2 formed in one vertical wall 3, the slots beginning at the upper edge and terminating towards the bottom of the bath in an enlargement 4 of the slot. On the wall 5 of the bath 1 opposite wall 3 are attached two blocks 6 carrying snubbing pin 7, preferably in a demountable manner, a short distance above the upper edge of wall 5. Treatment liquid heated to a suitable temperature is supplied to the bath through a pipe 8 at the bottom and overflows at the upper edge of wall 5 which is preferably slightly lower than the upper edges of the other bath walls. Another yarn guide 9, which is preferably a smooth ceramic guide or may be a snubbing pin is arranged above the pin 7 and to one side, so as to cause a sharp change in direction of movement of yarn 10 at pin 7. Guide 9 is preferably arranged so that yarn passing thereover suffers an additional change of direction before passing onwards. In Fig. 2 a bath 1 having only a single slot 2 is enclosed in an outer container 11 to confine any splashed bath contents as much as possible and the whole apparatus is mounted on a drawframe comprising a feed roll 12 with idler roll 13, draw rolls 14 in a heated enclosure 15 and additional take-up rolls 16. Examples illustrate the drawing of polyamide and polyester yarns.
