Abstract

1309837 Vinylidene chloride tubular films KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 16 Oct 1960 [17 Oct 1969] 49205/70 Heading B5B A process for the production of biaxially oriented tubular films of vinylidene chloride comprises melt extruding a composition consisting of 100 parts by weight of a crystalline vinylidene chloride copolymer containing 60 to 95% by weight vinylidene chloride and 40 to 5% by weight of a vinyl-containing monomer having vinyl chloride as its principal constituent, 1 to 20 parts by weight of a plasticizer (e.g. dibutyl sebacate), 0À3 to 10 parts by weight stabilizer (e.g. epoxidized soy bean oil) and 2 to 30 parts by weight of a compatible synthetic elastomeric substance, rapidly quenching the thus formed tubular film and thereafter continuously inflating the film while strongly heating it at a neck portion thereof at a temperature between the softening temperature of the film and 300‹ C. for from 1 to 7 seconds. Compatible elastomeric substances suitable for mixing with the vinylidene chloride copolymer before extrusion are copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate with or without ethylacrylate and a composition prepared by post-polymerization of a substance consisting of 100 parts by weight of a butadiene/styrene copolymer on 25 parts by weight of a styrene/methylmethacrylate copolymer.
