Abstract
1308575 Mechanical switches; fluid-pressure operated switches DATA APPLIANCE CORP 19 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 26235/71 Heading H1N In an electrical switch of the flexible pad type for operation by a moving stylus, pencil, fluidpressure &c. localized contact is made between flexible conductive layers 3, 5, Fig. 3, in the region of apertures 12 in rigid separators 4, at which slotted regions 17, 17a in a non-compressible flexible layer 6 above the conductive layer 5 and which deflect in a cantilever manner. The assembly may be covered and sealed by a further layer 7 of the flexible protective material above which a fourth layer of paper 8 may be placed having marks to delineate the apertured regions and which is also capable of being marked by a stylus or pencil. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) more than one conductivity layer may be arranged, one above the other, for simultaneous closure of more than one circuit. The flexible conductor layers may be of a woven or knitted fabric of conductive material or synthetic fibres coated at least in parts with silver or chromium of insufficient thickness to reduce the flexibility. Selected coated areas may also have the coating subsequently removed by solvents. Alternatively strips of conductive and non-conductive fabrics may be attached together by sewing, adhesives. The switch may also be used as a fluid-pressure responsive switch.
