1308190 Aqueous detergent suspending liquids UNILEVER Ltd 25 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 31090/70 Heading C5D Aqueous detergent liquids for suspending particulate matter comprise (A) water, (B) a water-soluble anionic organic detergent, (C) an unionized amphiphilic compound wherein (C) is present in such an amount that the mixture of (A), (B) and (C) has an apparent viscosity of not less than 0À2 poise at 1100 seconds<SP>-1</SP> shear rate and not more than 3À5 poise at 7 seconds<SP>-1</SP> and has non-Newtonian flow character and (F) a polarizable organic agent soluble in dodecane to the extent of at least 10% by wt. at 25‹ C. and soluble in distilled water at 25‹ C. in the range 0À02 to 2% w/w., present in an amount such that the resulting liquid has a yield value of at least 2 dynes per sq. cm. measured in the shear rate range of 10<SP>-2</SP> to 10<SP>-4</SP> seconds<SP>-1</SP>. Optional additions are (D) an electrolyte and (E) a viscosity modifier. The liquids may comprise 5-35% of (B), 2-10% of (C), 0À5-10% of (D), 0À5-10% of (E) and 0À5- 5% of (F). Compounds (C) may be C 8 -C 14 fatty acids, C 8 -C 14 aliphatic alcohols, C 8 -C 14 alkylamines, amine oxides, sulphoxides and Zwitterionic surfactants. Compounds (D) are alkali metal halides, sulphates, carbonates, silicates and phosphates and organic substituted ammonium halides. Compounds (F) may be ethanol, methanol or diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. The liquids may be used to suspend silica, quartz, felspar, kaolin, carborundum or encapsulated material, e.g. encapsulated perfume. Specifications 882,569 and 955,081 are referred to.
