Abstract
1308110 Phenylacetic acid RHONEPOULENC SA 20 July 1971 [21 July 1970 2 June 1971] 33935/71 Heading C2C Phenylacetic acid is prepared by oxidizing phenylacetaldehyde with molecular oxygen or a gas containing molecular oxygen, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a derivative of at least one transition metal at a temperature of 0 to less than 120‹ C. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an inert solvent. The catalyst may also contain at least one derivative of a metal of Groups IIIA, IVA, the lanthanides and the actinides. The process may be continuous.
