Abstract
1307638 VTOL aircraft; variable pitch propeller SOC NATIONALE INDUSTRIELLE AEROSPATIALE 28 July 1970 [29 July 1969] 36574/70 Headings B7G and B7V [Also in Division F1] A variable pitch propeller has a stationary hub portion 9, a rotating hub portion 8 carrying a plurality of blades 1 (one is shown) and a movable hub portion 11 rotated by the rotating hub portion 8 and connected to each blade 1 by a link 25 which is in turn connected to a pivot 28 fast with the movable hub portion 11 and a pivot 27 offset on each blade, Fig, 3 (not shown), whereby collective pitch change is effected on movement of a connection 12, 16 of variable length, having a rotary joint 17. The rotating hub portion 8 rotates both the movable hub portion 11 by means of guide pins 23 on which the movable hub portion can slide and a propeller shroud 6 by means of struts 14. The variable length connection comprises an electric hydraulic actuator 12 fast with the stationary hub portion and an actuator screw 16 connected to the rotary joint 17, which moves the end 29 of the hub portion 11 between limit positions 30, 31. Each blade 1 is mounted in two sets of bearings 18 and 22, the bearings 18 taking the weight of the blade. The propeller may form part of a turbojet mounted on a tiltable wing (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), of a V.T.O.L. aircraft, wherein elevator type control surfaces (4) positioned in the efflux from the propeller produce the moment required to swivel the wing.
