Abstract

1307336 1,4 - Quinone derivatives SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 16 July 1971 [20 July 1970] 35057/70 Heading C2C Novel 1,4-quinone derivatives of the general formula wherein X is an amino group di-N-substituted by an alkyl or cycloalkyl group and by an acyl group; Y is an amino group mono-N-substituted by an alkyl, acyl-substituted alkyl oralkenyl group: and A, together with the two carbon atoms of the quinone ring to which it is linked, is an optionally alkyl-substituted pyridine ring, are prepared by reacting a compound of the above formula wherein Y is a halogen atom with ammonia or the appropriate primary amine. The novel compounds may form the active ingredient in a novel herbicidal composition comprising a carrier and/or a surface -active agent together with, as active ingredient, at least one compound of the above formula wherein X and Y each represent a halogen atom or an amino group optionally mono- or di-N-substituted by alkyl, acyl-substituted alkyl, acyl, cycloalkyl or by alkenyl groups; and A, together with the two carbon atoms of the quinone ring to which it is linked, represents an optionally alkyl-substituted pyridine ring.
