Abstract

1307210 Electrically operated locks AUTO MOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 8 Nov 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 51756/71 Heading E2A A device for simultaneously controlling a plurality of electrically operated latches each of which comprises a solenoid connected to a bolt of the latch each solenoid being connectable to a supply of current in series with a common switch which is actuable by a first coil in series with at least one bolt locking switch and by a second coil in series with at least one bolt releasing switch. Each door bolt 1 of a vehicle pivots with a shaft 3 and is locked by turning a barrel of a front door cylinder lock 13 anticlockwise thus closing a front door switch 22, Fig. 1 (switches 22a, 22b in Fig. 3 being for right and left hand front doors) energising the coil 28 of a relay 27 and opening switch 26 connected to a battery 23 and to the solenoid 12 Fig. 1 (solenoids 12a to 12d for four doors in Fig. 3). Turning the lock barrel of a front door clockwise closes a switch 21 energising the coil 29 of the relay and closing switch 26, all the bolts are then releasable by pressing outside push buttons 30a to 30d or inside push buttons 32a to 32d to energise the solenoids 12a to 12d. If the switch 21 does not actuate continued rotation of the barrel by the key causes an arm 14 on the barrel to move a link 16 connected by a lever 17 to a lever 10 connected to the solenoid and to the bolt shaft 3 to release the bolt. The bolts are locked or released from inside the vehicle by closing a switch 36 or 37. Opening a door closes a door switch 38 for operating a roof light 39 and closes the circuit for the coil 29 to release the bolts. The rear doors may have a child's safety switch 34 in circuit with the inside push buttons 32c, 32d whereby when the switch is open the rear doors cannot be opened internally and a warning light 35 is illuminated. A warning light 42 is illuminated when the relay switch 26 is open and the bolts are locked and the main switch 41 is closed. The door bolts may be released mechanically by pulling an inside knob 8 which is connected by a link 9, to an arm 7 projecting radially from the shaft 3.
