Abstract
1306198 Measuring current and temperature in a power cable INDUSTRIE PIRELLIE SpA 9 June 1971 [11 June 1970] 19660/71 Heading G1N [Also in Division H2] Apparatus for detecting the ratio of the conductor current in an electric power cable 12 relative to the maximum conductor current which is permissible without a maximum conductor temperature for said cable being exceeded comprises a plurality of thermistors or thermocouples T 1-n on the cable outer surface, a selector 22 providing a signal S 1 representative of the higher or highest temperature, an electronic logic circuit 16 which translates S 1 into a signal S 2 representative of the maximum permissible conductor current for the cable 12 at the prevailing temperature and crossed-coil comparator 20 which compares S 2 with signal S 3 from a current transformer 18 sensing instantaneous conductor current and forms the ratio of S 2 and S 3 . The comparator is arranged to actuate an alarm 26 when the ratio is of a predetermined magnitude. A recorder 28 has a pair of ammeters of which the pointers drive writing devices and which are energized by the ratio signal from the comparator and by the signal S 3 respectively. Alternatively the translating means 16 may be a potentiometer having non-linear resistance and a servo-control mechanism.
