Abstract
1306022 Measuring speed electrically INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd 19 Jan 1972 [19 Jan 1971] 6501/71 Heading G1N A velocity transducer comprises a pair of members 24, 25 fixed relatively to one another providing a pair of unlike poles N, S, which are coupled by a magnetic field.which cuts a pair of elongated parallel coils 22, 23 so that relative movement between the members and the coils induces signals in the coils which are additive to give an output indicative of relative velocity. P.T.F.E. tubes over the magnets provide low friction movement. The magnetic poles may be provided by magnets of cobalt-steel, Alcomax (R.T.M.) or barium ferrite. If the material is temperature sensitive compensation may be provided by feeding the output to a variable gain amplifier which includes a temperature sensitive feedback loop incorporating copper wire resistor. The arrangement is associated with a disc store head drive unit, Fig. 3 (not shown).
