1305401 Blending and emulsifying apparatus R L BOWEN Jnr 20 Jan 1970 2778/70 Heading B1C In an immersion and circulation mixer for liquids comprising a rotor with blades 40, the top edges 62 of which cooperate with the bottom edges 64 of stator vanes 32 to shear the liquid, the distance between edges 62, 64 increase with radius. The axial clearance 65 at the outer ends of the blades may be the same as the radial clearance 66 between the outer edges and the stator 30. When the faces of the blades are in parallel planes the residence time between the blades and stator vanes at all radial distances may be made constant by suitably increasing the width of the stator vanes 32C, Fig. 17; alternatively the width of the stator vanes may be constant (Fig. 2 and 8, not shown) and the impeller blades be of outwardly increasing width (Fig. 18, not shown). Numerous constructions to which the invention may be applied are described with reference to Figs. 1-14, 20 and 21, not shown.
