Abstract

1303966 Coating apparatus AHLMANN-CARLSHUTTE KG 19 April 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 21265/71 Heading B2L A masking device for defining areas of a bath or shower tub to be coated with discrete areas of refractory material forming a non-slip area comprises mask walls 2, 3 and funnel like elements 7 located therein. The elements 7 have flanges which are located between the walls 2, 3 so as to retain the elements but allow them to move slightly to accommodate slight differences in shape in the tub. The walls of the funnels define a wedge of about 40‹ and the lower walls lie at an angle of about 15‹ to the surface to be coated. A member 14 is provided to locate in the plug hole and adjustable locating screws 18 are provided. The refractory material which may be metallic oxide and/or ceramic material and pure clay or enamel powder is heated to liquifaction by plasma flame spraying, electric arc or a gas/oxygen flame. The spray mask funnels may be of brass with 60% copper or chrome plated steel. In a modification for showers (Fig. 7) the connection between the member 14 and the mask may be adjustable.
