Abstract

1303633 Low bacterial-count enzymes NOVO TERAPEUTISK LABORATORIUM AS 14 April 1970 [18 April 1969] 19821/69 Heading C3H An enzyme product having a low bacterial count is produced by aerobic cultivation in a nutrient medium of an enzyme-producing asporogenic mutant of a bacterium of the genus Bacillus. The micro-organism may be Bacillus subtilis NCIB 10448 or 10449, Bacillus licheniformis NCIB 10402, Bacillus cereus NCIB 10447, or alcalophilic Bacillus species NCIB 10398, 10399, 10400 or 10401. The enzyme product may comprise proteases or amylases. The cultivation may be at 25-55‹ C. for 1-5 days using conventional media. The mutant bacterium may be produced by irradiation of the parent bacterium with U.V. light, X-rays, γ-rays, or electrons; by heating in vacuo; by spontaneous mutation; or by chemical treatment with, e.g., nitrous acid, nitroso guanidine, ethylene imine, diethylsulphate, mustard gas, acridine orange or acriflavin.
