Abstract

1302245 Spreaders for containers STOTHERT & PITT Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 Feb 1970] 8489/70 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] A twin lift container handling spreader comprises spreader frames 2, 21 for containers 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, the said frames when in use being maintained spaced apart by means of spacing mechanisms 3, 4 which are interengaged when in use. Each of the mechanisms 3, 4 are movable in a vertical arcuate path from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that in Fig. 5 (not shown), by means of hydraulic rams 13, the amount of movement being pre-set by the rams according to the thickness of a partition P, e.g. in a ship's hold. The mechanisms 3, 4 are held in an interengaged position by means of jaws 16 which grip a rail member 30 on the other mechanism, the jaws 16 being movable by means of a ram 26 which is actuated when the interengaging faces of the mechanisms 3, 4 come together.
