Abstract

1301974 Simulated golf course E L LAU 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 22853/71 Heading A6D A simulated golf course comprises a plurality of adjacent fairways 20, 22, a hitting area 66 comprising an upper tee level 67 for hitting golf balls on to the fairways and having a plurality of tees T1-18, and an approach level 76 vertically spaced below and in front of said tee level for hitting approach shots on to said fairways, a protective covering 104 extending from the front edge of the tee level over the approach level, a first group of target greens H6 &c H9 &c, at the far end of each fairway and a second group of target greens H2, 15 and 17, and H5, 8, and 12 spaced along each of said fairways at different distances from the hitting area. Preferably a second approach level 79 is provided vertically spaced below and in front of the approach level 78 together with a protective screen 106 thereover; a sand trap, chip and rough shot level 112 is provided vertically spaced below and in front of the approach level and a putting green area 70 is provided behind the tees. A supplementary green area 28 between adjacent fairways may be provided having target greens OG1 etc for shots taken from the aproach levels and there can be spaced greens G1 to G8 for shots from the sand, trap, chip and rough shot level and spaced at various distances therefrom. In use a card is made up of eighteen various length holes and a golfer drives from the appropriate T towards the respective target green H, from his shot he estimates the length of fairway left and descends to the approach level and makes a further shot either along the fairway or towards one of the OG target greens the appropriate distances away, when he is on the green he transfers to the appropriate putting area. Should his ball land in one of the hazard areas he descends to the sand trap, chip and rough level and makes the appropriate shot from there. The fairways may be at or above ground level and slope from the far end towards the near end and further slope from their centre to their sides and are provided with gutters with movable deflectors to receive balls from the fairway. The fairway may be formed of a green coloured wire mesh with projecting bumpers thereon to slow the balls down. The second group of target greens are preferably formed as platforms above the fairway surface and provided with jack means to raise and lower the front edge to permit balls accumulated thereon to roll on to the fairway and away to the gutters. The supplementary green area 28 may also be sloped from the far end to the near end and can be provided with roller sweeper means for removing balls therefrom into suitable guttering. The whole course may be elevated above ground level and the space below used for other amenities and club house and spectator facilities can be provided.
