Abstract

1301784 Cleaning composition STICHTING BEDRIJVEN VAN HET NEDERLANDS INSTITUUT VOOR ZUIVELONDERZOEK 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21720/71 Heading C5D A cleaning composition comprises (a) up to 40 parts by weight of an alkali metal hydroxide, (b) 25y to 150y parts of a sequestering agent containing amino and carboxylic groups (y is the number of grams of sequestering agent which binds the same amount of calcium as 1 gram of EDTA tetrasodium salt), (c) 2 to 100 parts of a condensed phosphate, (d) up to 30 parts of an alkali metal silicate and (e) 0À1 to 5 parts of a non-ionic surface-active agent. The composition may be dissolved in water and used to clean heat exchangers and other apparatus for handling aqueous liquids. The cleaned surfaces may then be rinsed with water. Ingredients specified include: alkali metal hydroxide: sodium hydroxide; sequestering agents: N-hydroxyethyl ethylene diamine triacetic acid, diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid, nitrilo-triacetic acid, ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid and sodium salts thereof; phosphates: sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium tetraphosphate and sodium triphosphate; silicates: sodium meta-silicate, sodium disilicate and sodium tetrasilicate; and nonionic surface-active agents: nonylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol.
