Abstract

1301099 Valves BRITISH ROPES Ltd 7 April 1970 [16 April 1969] 19450/69 Heading F2V A valve for connection into a pipe-line comprises a housing having two tubular parts 1, 2 secured end to end in abutting relationship so as to provide a flow passage 3, 4. A sealing ring 10 in axial compression between the parts is exposed to the interior of the passage and provides a seat for a butterfly valve member 11. An operating spindle 12 of the valve member passes through holes in the ring and is accommodated between the housing parts before they are secured together. As disclosed, the butterfly member 11 is secured by pins (17), Fig. 3 (not shown), to the spindle and is assembled with bearings (19) located in complementary half bores (21) in the housing parts. The bearings may alternatively be half shells. The housing parts may as shown be welded into a pipe-line or a two-part wafer type housing, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be adapted for bolting between adjacent pipe flanges. The sealing ring may have annular ribs and/or recesses (22-25), Figs. 5a to 5g (not shown). Butterfly valve may be replaced by louvred flaps.
