Abstract
1301092 Nuclear reactor coolant systems BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 16 March 1970 [14 March 1969 9 July 1969] 13695/69 and 34575/69 Heading G6C In a nuclear reactor, heat exchangers in the coolant system are provided with two separate banks of tubes in one of which the secondary coolant flow may be interrupted, the flow in the second bank being adequate to prevent the first bank overheating. The heat exchanger tubes 3, mounted within cavities 2 in the concrete pressure vessel 1, are heated by core coolant from the duct 5. Secondary fluid flows from duct 9 into the distributer 8 which provides a separate, parallel supply for each of the two banks. At low loads, the valve 9b is closed so that secondary fluid flows only through the tubes connected to the inner part 8a of the distributer, at a rate sufficient to ensure that overheating of the exchanger is prevented. Decay heat, produced during shut-down, may also be removed by the use of part of the exchanger after closure of 9b.
