Abstract

1300921 Antiskid braking systems GIRLING Ltd 15 Jan 1970 [17 Oct 1968] 49302/68 Heading F2F In a vehicle braking antiskid system hydraulic fluid is passed from a pedal-operated valve 11 (or master cylinder) to slave cylinders by way of a solenoid valve 18 which is adapted to cut off supply of fluid to the slave cylinders and return it to a reservoir supplying the valve 11 when signals detected by sensors 20 are passed via an amplifier 21 to the valve 18 when the deceleration of the braked wheels exceeds a predetermined value. In the embodiment shown fluid passes straight to the front wheels by way of conduit 15 and to the rear wheels by way of the valve 18. As shown in Fig. 2, a magnetic core piece 40 of solenoid valve 18 normally closes, at 44, 30, a first outlet 29 leading (at 19, Fig. 1) to the reservoir, while inlet 32 from valve 11 is permitted to communicate via bores 33, 34 and passage 35 with a second outlet 36 leading to the slave cylinders. On energization of solenoid windings 39, the magnetic core piece first opens communication between the second outlet 36 and first outlet 29 via a through bore 41 in the core piece, and then, by stem 42 extending from the core piece, closes inlet 32, spring 43 being thereby compressed.
