Abstract
1300751 Gas cushion vehicle VOSP ER THORNYCROFT Ltd 2 Jan 1970 [8 Jan 1969] 1172/69 Heading B7K [Also in Division F2] A gas-cushion vehicle is provided with valve means, disposed in a duct 10 supplying the cushion, which comprise at least a pair, as shown two rows, of sealing members 12 of flexible material, which may be U-shaped in plan (c.f. Fig. 4, not shown) and triangular in elevation. These are attached by cords 13 to pins 15 on the walls of the duct 10 and by cords 16 to a bar 19 traversing the duct. When a lift fan supplying pressurised gas to the cushion is operating, the segments 12, in the position shown by full lines, offer little or no resistance to the flow of gas which is in the direction A. Should the lift fan fail, however, gas will begin to flow in the opposite direction and the segments will take up the position shown in dotted lines, the closed ends 20 of the U-shapes being now at 20a, forming a seal across the duct to minimize the reverse gas flow.
