Abstract

1299995 Thermowell ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO 30 Jan 1970 4578/70 Heading G1D A thermowell for use in a vessel or conduit containing an aggressive environment comprises a hose part 2 formed of or coated with a material resistant to the environment, and a second port 1 detachably attached to the first port in a non- rotatable fashion. The first port may be resistant to high fluid velocity, high temperature, alternating extremes of temperature, corrosion and erosion, and may be formed of glass, ceramic, Stellite (Trade Mark) refractory, metal, silicon nitride, or metal coated with alumina, silicon nitride or Stellite. The second port may be of mild steel or brass and be screw-threaded or push fitted on to an aperture in the vessel or conduit wall. The two ports may be detachably attached by welding cementing screw-threading or pinning, and a pin may be used to prevent relative rotation of the two ports. The second port may be of circular cross-section while the first port may be circular or shaped to ease the flow of fluid past the probe.
