Abstract

1297906 Carbon BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 25 March 1970 [29 March 1969] 14481/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] Soot-containing oils, obtained by quenching soot-containing cracked gases, e.g. from the manufacture of ethylene, acetylene or synthesis gas, with high boiling hydrocarbon, are regenerated by bleeding off a stream of sootcontaining hydrocarbons from the quenching loop, partially evaporating hydrocarbon from this stream in a stripping column and then separating soot from the concentrated stream by centrifugation or evaporation of the hydrocarbon. The soot is obtained either as such or as granular petroleum coke; a binder for the soot, e.g. coal tar, petroleum tar or bitumen, can be added in the stripping column. The soot content can be increased from 20-25 wt. per cent to 30-45% in the stripping column. The concentrated stream can be diluted to 8-12 wt. per cent soot with benzene or toluene prior to centrifugation; alternatively the high-boiling hydrocarbon can be evaporated in an externally heated, stirred vessel or in a fluidized bed of petroleum coke heated indirectly or directly by the introduction of air or oxygen. Suitable high boiling hydrocarbons are naphthalene and aromatics-containing liquids boiling between 250‹ and 300‹ C.
