Abstract

1297118 Cutting apparatus; sheet cutting M A ARMOUR 23 Dec 1969 [1 Jan 1969] 3/69 Headings B4B and B5A In an apparatus for cutting discs from sheet material, a blade 11 having an endless cutting edge 13 is heated by an element 15 during cutting so that the edge of the material being cut is simultaneously sealed. An embodiment in the form of a hand tool comprises heatinsulating material 16, 20, e.g. asbestos, a stainless steel plate 17 and housing 10, and a handle 22A having holes 23 to assist the dissipation of heat. A thermostat 21 automatically controlling the temperature in accordance with a regulator 22 and an indicating lamp 30 are provided. The element 15 may be annular and made of " Monel " (Trade Mark) metal, also it may be sandwiched between two parts of the blade 11, one part comprising the cutting edge being detachable. A concave portion 11A of the blade assists in discharging the cut-out disc. The blade may be of the form to cut a serrated or fluted disc, and the sheet material may be nylon, artificial silk and other synthetic resinous materials which may contain interwoven silk and wool fibres.
